Michelle M. Miller, Ph.D., is Assistant Professor in the Finance and Economics Department at Rutgers Business School. Before earning her Ph.D. in economics from Boston University in 2009, she earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and economics from the University of California, San Diego. The majority of Dr. Miller’s research focuses on the economics of personal bankruptcy. Recent work has addressed the impact of state laws on a household’s decision to file for bankruptcy, the impact of an attorney on the household’s bankruptcy chapter, and the impact of social networks on a household’s bankruptcy decision. In addition to her works on consumer finance, Dr. Miller has conducted research in health economics, labor economics, and economic history.
