CORE

The Curriculum in Open-access Resources in Economics (CORE) project, launched in October 2013, is developing a new approach to economics teaching for undergraduates.

CORE aims to update the existing economics curriculum in the light of recent developments in economics, the economy, and teaching methods. All CORE material is created collaboratively, using input from academics, instructors, policy makers, professional economists, and students. CORE disseminates the resulting resources via the internet, making them free to use by participating institutions.

Funded by the Institute for New Economic Thinking and based at the Institute for New Economic Thinking at Oxford in the Oxford Martin School at the University of Oxford, the Project Director is Professor Wendy Carlin of University College London. Azim Premji University in Bangalore, India, is a key partner and responsible for the design and technological development of the CORE course materials.

The CORE project is being created collaboratively, using input from academics, instructors, policy makers, professional economists and students. The internet-based “Introduction to Economics” course materials will be tested in classrooms in a number of countries from September 2014. They will available to other users from the following year. Contributors are drawn from around the world including academics based in Asia at Azim Premji University, Bangalore; in Australia at the University of Sydney, in Europe at Boğaziçi University, Istanbul, London School of Economics, The New Economic School, Moscow, Sciences-Po, Paris, University College London, The University of East Anglia, The University of Oxford and The University of Warwick; in South America at Unversidad de Chile and Unversidad de los Andes, Colombia; and in the US at Columbia University, Brown University, The University of Maryland, The University of Massachusetts Amherst and the Santa Fe Institute.
