Kathryn Neckerman

Involvement

Kathryn Neckerman is a sociologist who specializes in the study of urban inequality and the built environment. She is a Senior Research Scientist with the Columbia Population Research Center at Columbia University. Neckerman is the editor of Social Inequality (Russell Sage Foundation, 2004) and co-author of the 2007 review article “Inequality: Causes and Consequences” in the Annual Review of Sociology. She is an investigator with Columbia’s Built Environment and Health group and has written extensively on disparities in neighborhood environments and their implications for health. Her recent research focuses on novel methods of neighborhood measurement and on the determinants and health benefits of travel by public transit and by walking/cycling.
